About Me

Chris G. Martinez

As the child of Cuban exiles, I grew up fascinated by history and found myself drawn to history from all over the world. Growing up, I made a lot of wonderful childhood memories with family visiting American historic sites and enriching myself with knowledge. As I got older, I was blessed to be invited to a traditional wedding in Colombia and explore a bit about Latin American history. One of the first places I visited in Colombia was the Quinta de Bolívar – one of the homes of Simón Bolívar who liberated many countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela from the reign of the Spanish Empire. Years later, I was blessed to live three years in the Balkans and spend two years studying in Germany.

During one of my years living abroad, I was able to visit the beautiful country of Spain (which also happens to be the birthplace of two of my great-grandparents) and I was hooked. One of the things that I noticed growing up was that Hispanic heritage and history was not greatly taught in American schools. As I went exploring through my home state of Florida, I saw that there were many hidden Hispanic heritage sites all around me that weren’t often talked about. That is why I began this blog – to share photographs and to educate readers on the history of the beautiful Hispanic heritage sites that are all around us. If I was asked what I hope to do one day, it is to visit my parents’ home country of Cuba and to explore it in person.
